LIPLICK ECZEMA
It is most commonly present in Atopic children, when lip licking, thumb sucking or dribbling is frequent. The skin of the lips and the surrounding area becomes swollen, red, itchy, cracked and sore. This often provokes further licking, which in turn aggravates the condition and it progressively worsens.
In rare cases contact dermatitis or contact urticaria can also further aggravate the condition.
Secondary infections due to staphylococcal bacteria can cause pusy weeping and crusting of the lesions. Steps should be taken to identify the infection and if necessary treat this condition in conjunction with the eczema.
