HYPERKERATOTIC PALMAR/PLANTAR ECZEMA

This commonly seen skin condition occurs mainly in adults.

Considered to be a mild form of Pomholyx, this chronic skin condition causes the “thick” layer of the palms and soles to “separate from the layer beneath, resulting in peeling and exfoliation of the skin.

This condition is cyclical. It presents as pinpoint white spots (not containing fluid) and develops scaling and peeling over a 3-6 week period. After peeling, the skin may initially turn red and be tender but it does gradually return to normal.

The condition often reoccurs.

Bacterial and fungal infection are possible triggers and if identified need to be addressed.

Painful, slow healing fissures of the fingertips is a common problem for chronic suffers.
